Last week I wrote a blog post about how I was now convinced that the SmartBoard was probably the best interactive whiteboard option for most music education classrooms.  That opinion has not changed, but I recently came across a very good blog that devotes itself to the Wiimote Whiteboard system.  For those of you that are not familiar with the idea you can make a fully functional yet cheap interactive whiteboard (IWB) for less than one hundred dollars by using a Wii video game remote, a bluetooth USB dongle, and an infrared pen.

I have tried to do this setup on several occasions but have never been able to get it to work very well.  My rooms tend to be very bright and the existing infrared light control systems play havoc with the Wiimote's sensitivity.  Still, for those of you that are interested in having an IWB in your classroom and don't want to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to do it the Wiimote option is definately something to consider.  If you decide to give it a try be sure to take a close look at the 3pInteract Wiimote Whiteboard Blog.  Be sure to browse through the posts from 2009 as well as the current posts to get a ton of helpful hints on how to set up and use a Wiimote whiteboard.
