Having it's roots in 1850's England Pop! Goes The Weasel is another modern children's song that has undergone countless changes over the last century and a half. The only part of the original lyrics that survives in common usage today is the Pop! Goes the Weasel part while the rest of the song has been changed to fit countless different occasions and uses.
The most well known versions of the lyrics here in the United States tend to center around the following:
All around the mulberry bush
The monkey chased the weasel
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun
Pop! goes the weasel
A penny for a spool of thread
A penny for a needle
That's the way the money goes
Pop! goes the weasel
Jimmy's got the whooping cough
And Timmy's got the measles
That's the way the story goes
Pop! goes the weasel
