Kids listening to music

This article contains the words and printed sheet music to the song (sheet music and MP3 audio files are provided at the bottom of this page), John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, a popular traditional children's song thought to have originated in Germany in the 19th century.  It is still a popular summer camp song even today, and is also listed on various youth group sites such as the Boy Scouts of America as well as many others.

The Lyrics to John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt:

John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt,
His name is my name too.
Whenever we go out,
The people always shout,
There goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
Dah dah dah dah, dah dah dah

Variations on the Song:

Most summer camp versions of the song allow for an almost endless repetition of the same verse, each time altering the volume level with the first verse starting loud and each successive verse getting softer and softer.  However, when the singers get to the Dah Dah Dah line it is almost always sung as loud as possible, jumping out at the listener before going back to the next softer repetition.

Most camp groups will sing the song 4-5 times before ending on a final loud Dah Dah Dah!
