A Profile of Leopold Mozart

altGerman composer, violinist and theorist Leopold Mozart is born May 28 (1719). For all his own achievements, he has mainly been referred to as the father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Indeed, Leopod Mozart practically gave up his career to concentrate on his two gifted children. Johann Georg Leopold Mozart (1719-1787) was born in Augsburg. In 1747, she married Anna Maria Pertl, who took the role of a dutiful wife and mother.

ProkofievComposer Sergey (or Sergei) Prokofiev is born April 23, at Sontsovka, in the Ukraine.

 

Sergey Sergeyevich Prokofiev (1891-1953) was a Russian composer, pianist and conductor. He is famous for operas The Love for Three Oranges, ballet Romeo and Juliet, and the popular charming tale for children, Peter and the Wolf  for narrator and orchestra, for which he wrote his own libretto based on a Russian folk tale.

Handel's Messiah with Powerful "Hallelujah Chorus"

altGeorge Frideric Handel's Messiah remains the greatest oratorio of all time, and most famous for Lent and Christmas.

Handel's oratorio Messiah, a fixture music for Christmas and Easter most especially the extremely famous "Hallelujah Chorus," is in fact not originally created by Handel for Christmas, but for Lent. It was premiered on April 13, 1742, the Tuesday before Easter, in a small theater in Dublin, Ireland.
